Parents Worst Nightmare!!!

Tate woke up Easter morning with a fever. We missed church but toward the afternoon he was feeling better and even got a visit from the Easter Bunny? Everything was looking good!! We went to Paul's sister's house and ate a great dinner with the Lancaster's. We made Rice Krispie nests and Tate was playing and having a ball. Then my worst fear happened...
When Tate was 6 months old he started his "breath holding spells", as the doctors call them. When he gets hurt or mad sometimes he holds his breath so long that he passes out. It was scary at first but as soon as he passes out his body kicks in and takes a big deep breath and life is good. Easter Sunday was an exception. Tate got mad and was holding his breath again and passed out, but this time he didn't take a breath. My worst fear became a reality and Tate was not breathing and turning blue. I ended up giving him a quick rescue breath....nothing! I gave him another breath...and finally his brain and body kicked in and he started to wheeze and started to breath. The ambulance was on the way and we ended up heading to Primary Children's Hospital.

The doctors are pretty convinced this was a unique breath holding spell and after many tests and an uncomfortable night in the hospital Tate was given a clean bill of health and we got to come home. I can honestly say, that was the worst moment of my life! No parent should have to see there baby not breathing, it's awful. We are so blessed that Tate is healthy and happy. We are just a little nervous to ever make him mad.

Our Yummy Rice Krispie nests!

As you can see, he bounced back pretty quick!

Waiting, waiting, and waiting!!!

After 16 hours we were finally on our way home. Tate was pretty wiped out!

What a scary experience. I am glad to see that he is doing better. I can't imagine how scared you must have been.
We will make sure and never make him mad!

Oh my goodness Nat. I'm SO glad he's ok. Where on EARTH would he learn such a scary negotiating tactic?? What a kid. Hopefully that doesn't happen again!!

Oh my gosh, that is so scary...I'm so glad he is ok. My little sister used to do the same thing when she would get mad or upset...it always scared me so bad!

Hi guys. very cute pictures of everyone. we both have such cute kids! It really was a nice Easter, Tate made sure we won't forget it. I liked the jammies in the hospital pictures-that was convenient! We love you! We love Tate.

Hi! My name is Kambria. I was actually blog googling for parents with kids with breath holding spells and ran across your experience. My son is 4 and has spells and passes out about once a day. It used to be about 5-7 times a day. It is scary. He started around 2 months old. Anyways, I don't give you this info to make you feel like it won't ever end, but just to let you know I know the fear. We have had a few experiences when we had to perform rescue breathing - and it didn't help much. It is the scariest thing to go through. I just wanted you to know you are not alone. If it is ever bad and you need to vent, go ahead and post a comment on my blog.
